Backyard Makeover: Phase 1

Earlier this year we decided we wanted/needed to do something with the backyard. One of the biggest selling points of our house was the view of the forest. Fall is especially beautiful. But one of the lower points was that the yard is sloped. Perfect for racing dumptrucks, but otherwise not very practical.

So we've decided to level an area for things such as a swing set and sandbox, put in a fire pit and build a garden. Lucas LOVES the swings. The other day he was had even turned a kitchen chair into a pretend swing and was practicing the motion. Charlie and Dani, Lucas's friends from class, are letting us borrow their dad and his landscaping team for the project. So far, in phase one, they have completed the wall for the play area and hauled one load of dirt in.

The yard will slope into an 18x32 level play area. The fire pit will be in front of the two large trees at the right of the picture.

A 12x16 garden will be in the sunny side of the yard.

I don't know if I've ever seen Lucas as excited as when they asked him to help.

True Temper and Lil' True Temper

My hard-working boy never forgets to bring me flowers at the end of the day. Just like his daddy!

  1. This is going to be wonderful! In my experience, there is nothing better than kicking kids outside for a while and this will make it so much easier for you to do that!
