Butterflies!

Uncle Jon, world's most thoughtful gift giver, sent Lucas a butterfly kit over the summer. In the fall, we finally sent off for the larvae and within no time we had four new butterflies to release into the world! Lucas documented the process until they made their chrysalises and things got rather uneventful for a few days. But then, like magic, I walked in to Lucas's room one day and caught some movement out of the corner of my eye - butterflies! We were so excited that despite Mommy's not following the directions correctly (the chrysalises should have been transferred to the butterfly "garden" pre-transformation,) they made it. Although I'm sad to report, one had an injured wing.

The one on the bottom looks dead, but he is not upside down and those are not his legs. He had a very hairy back.

"Aunt Lari" (My dad's wife Tammy's daughter) helped release the last two butterflies. We released the first two at the arbor during the after-school picnic.

They flew away so quickly that I missed the kids' joyous reaction. This is a reenactment.

Only those who know Lari, will notice the subtle annoyance at me asking for a third reaction. I forgot exactly what she said, but in so many words..."it's over Natasha."
